Posting1:The Meeting

Reblogged from Dinner at the Big House:

Dinner at the Big House is a fictional story. It is not endorsed or affiliated with any institution, facility, or particular family. It is a creative, fictional work based on some historical facts, people, and places.  -G.E. Cooper-

I have decided to write in a blog style fashion, which means I will be posting 1 new chapter per week. You can opt to have my blog posts sent to your email, for your reading convenience.

Update on Blogging a Book

I wrote 3 chapters last night! I am trying to get at least 1/2 of the book’s chapters finished before posting each chapter.  I’m doing this to be ahead of the game so my readers won’t be disappointed if I can’t keep up.

I don’t want to feel pressured into producing something to read just to keep a schedule. The important things to me while doing this is to produce quality work, while bringing pleasure and good info to my readers in a timely fashion so they don’t lose interest. Some people read fast, others like to digest a bit more, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time as Bob Marley would sing.

I think if you are contemplating writing in this style, a really good outline is imperative. I think it is also important to know where the story is going from start, middle to the end. If you don’t know, then it is too hard to go back and change things to make things line up without confusion. The main body of the story has to be established before posting..at least this is my opinion from what I am learning by doing. Maybe you already know this..if so..great!

Obviously do what works for you. We don’t all produce material in the same way.Writing is too much of a creative endeavor to box yourself into doing things a certain way. I guess the best way( in my opinion) is to jump in and start writing…but don’t post until you have enough back-up material ready to go, and know how your story will progress and end before committing to a posting schedule. ( which for me just causes unwanted pressure and stress.)

Everything has to be thought out before posting, because once published, you don’t want to have to go back and edit something your readers have already read..right?

It is not as easy as it looks. I would love to have some advice and tips from my fellow book bloggers out there. It’s all good!

Blogging A Book…A Drop a Day

I have been contemplating this for sometime..10 years actually..but who’s counting? With the aid of more recent technology, I believe it is the optimum time for writers wanting to get their stories read. Of course, I would love to have my works in hard print someday…but until then, I am content with reading your comments, suggestions, and just having the opportunity to do what I really love to do in this online forum.Reading, writing,, researching, imagining, and vizualizing the story before it is written brings such passion to my life, as well as many sleepless nights!

I’ve decided to not stick to any type of predictable posting. I don’t know how many pages per day, or how many times per week I will be posting. The book has not been written yet. It is only outlined in my head at this point. Therefore.. I have no idea how it is going to come out..or when.

For me personally, that is the unpredictable part of writing…Never knowing when the inspiration to write will hit. Sometimes, I am so inspired to write, but what comes out is not what was on the agenda. I think being flexible is going to be more important for my work than sticking to structured postings and deadlines. I just don’t work that way.

The potential title for the book is “Dinner at the Big House“.  Without giving too much away today, it is a purely fictional story based on some famous philanthropic figures in history. It also incorporates a spiritual element , which some may call a “ghost story”, but it is much more than that.

I have also been in the process of using Napoleon Hill‘s “Invisible councilors” techniques in this process of formulating stories and ideas.  I actually have been “dreaming”  this book, and getting awakened in the middle of the night with an inspiration or story idea.

I will begin to write soon. I am a little bit nervous to start, but hopefully I will gain momentum of confidence and get some support along the way! Thanks for reading.

Writing for Purpose…Giving to Charity

A few months ago, I wrote a short “booklet” in ebook form in which I donated to my favorite non profit. It was the best feeling in the world to hand it over and let them use it as a fundraiser, or however they see fit.

Since then, I have developed a strong urge to continue to write for charity. I think it’s such a cool way for writers to contribute to a cause…hence the saying I love to use..Drop by drop we fill the pot!

I think it is awesome that writers can link their stories with something very close and personal to their hearts, which makes the giving so meaningful and important.

I was recently followed on Twitter by a fellow Minnesotan author Jenna -Lynne Duncan. I have not yet read her novel Hurricane, but on her Twitter page it says she donates a % of sales to Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans. How awesome is that?

Newark Mayor Cory Booker on Gay Marriage: Don't Put Civil Rights Issues on the Ballot

Reblogged from Prometheus Unbound:

Newark Mayor Cory Booker, contra New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, makes an intelligent and impassioned plea not to put gay marriage up for a vote in New Jersey. This is perhaps the most eloquent impromptu defense of gay civil rights you’ll likely hear this year—perhaps in any year. Extraordinarily well said. One for the history books.

excellent!

I obviously have my own opinions, as you are entitled to yours. HOWEVER, I am really confused about this statement I just read yesterday. Here is the link to the upsetting article www.http://www.startribune.com/local/stpaul/138079638.html.

The decision is not what is upsetting to me. It is the lack of conviction and jaw dropping statement made  by Don Bolsom which disturbs me.

“Not my issue?”

I am not a homosexual woman, however, these laws affect all of us! If I am not thirsty or hungry, does that mean I shouldn’t care about those who are? If I am not a minority(that being  religious, race, gender, ect..) then those issues affecting these people do not concern or affect me?  Really? Not my issue?

I guess what ultimately upsets me is that this man is in a position( assumed elected official?) If you don’t have enough moral fortitude to take a stand on an issue.. what are you doing voting (or not in Don’s case) for or against potential laws that will ultimately affect us all?

Thanks for reading..I just had to get that out of my system.

whewwwwwh..Better now.

Today's Honoree is Salva Dut

Reblogged from Today's Honoree:

More than two million people were killed and 20,000 boys were  orphaned or displaced during the Sudanese Civil War. These “lost boys” left their villages in the midst of government savagery inflicted upon civilians. The younger boys escaped and walked for years to reach refugee camps. Salva Dut is one of the young men who made epic journeys to relief camps.
